MARY WILSON
of The SUPREMES

WITH SPECIAL GUESTS: THE CHI-LITES

Tony Denton Promotions brings the first lady of Motown, Mary Wilson, back to the UK for her own headline theatre tour in 2011.  Taking in 20 dates across the country starting at the Leicester De Montfort Hall on 26th February and culminating at Birmingham’s Alexandra Theatre on 20th March, the former singer and founding member of The Supremes will be performing all their hits and more.

The Supremes many hits include “Where Did Our Love Go” (No 3) and the No 1’s that include “Baby Love”, “Come See About Me”, “Stop In the Name of Love” and “Back in My Arms Again”.  They are the only group to have five consecutive No. 1 hits in America. In the UK they continued with a string of hits including, “I Hear A Symphony,” “You Cant Hurry Love”, “You Keep Me Hanging On”, “The Happening” “Reflections”, “I’m Gonna Make You Love Me”, “Someday We’ll Be Together” and ‘Nathan Jones’ (No. 5), ‘Stoned Love’ (No 3) and many more.

Appearing as “Mary Wilson of the Original Supremes,” she is sought after to entertain all over the world and even performed for President Bill Clinton in the White House for the Millennium Celebrations!  She still performs with the same passion as she did singing with the original Supremes, but the world renowned celebrity is now using her fame and flair to promote humanitarian efforts to end hunger, raise AIDS awareness and encourage world peace.  The Supremes were one of the first pop groups of the 1960’s to do commercial endorsements endorsing Coca-Cola, Arrid deodorant and they even had their own “Supreme” white bread and brand of wigs!

Interest in the Supremes’ legacy was renewed after the release of the award-winning film “Dreamgirls,” in 2006. While the film created a wonderful piece of work using the likeness of the Supremes, as well as their history, Ms. Wilson said it did not depict their true story!  A collection of more than 50 gowns from their earliest performances throughout their star-studded career entitled “The Story of the Supremes from the Mary Wilson Collection,” was most recently on exhibit at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

Mary’s special guests THE CHI–LITES, from Chicago, perform in the UK for the first time since  1984,  Their many hits include "(For God's Sake) Give More Power To The People",  "Have You Seen Her", "Oh Girl", “Homely Girl”, “I Found Sunshine”, “Too Good To Be Forgotten”, “It’s Time For Love” & “You Don’t Have To Go”.

In 2000 the Chi-Lites were inducted into Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame. The Chi-Lites song, "Are You My Woman", is sampled and featured on the album by Beyoncé under the title "Crazy In Love". The Grammy nominated recording also features Jay-Z and can be found on Beyoncé's "Dangerously In Love" CD.
